Ski pass and discounts

ESPACE KILLY SKI PASS

Val d’Isère’s lift passes cost less than in any comparable resort. Even in incomparable Cairngorm you’d pay almost the same! The hands-free electronic lift passes work beautifully, with your lift pass remaining safely zipped into an inside pocket all week. As well as the normal pass covering the whole Espace Killy, including Tignes, there is a Val d’Isère-only pass, but it gives 50% less skiing for a saving of only 5%.

Children under 5 ski free, as do adults of 75 and over. All the little lifts at the foot of the Solaise and La Daille slopes are free to everyone. This is ideal for beginners, though they quickly progress to the higher slopes, where they require a pass.

DISCOUNTS

FAMILY DISCOUNT (available all season)

Please note that the following are 2012-13 prices - we hope to have 2013-14 prices shortly.

For a 6 or 7-day ski pass, the fourth member of a family pays half price, as do any subsequent members. The STVI’s definition of a family is two parents plus two or more of their own offspring, so it’s the second child who pays half price: half the child price if he/she is 13 or less, half the adult price if he/she is older. Children under 5 don’t count because their pass is free anyway. Children aged 5 to 17 inclusive count towards family, as do 18 to 21-year olds if they show a student card. These passes are bought on the YSE transfer bus and cannot be pre-booked.

As a guide, various 6-day permutations work out as follows:

Two adults + two children under 14: €752
Two adults + three children under 14: €846
Two adults + one teen (14–17 OR student 18–21) + one child: €799
Two adults + two teens: €822.50

Two adults + three teens: €940

Two adults + two teens + one child: €916.50
Two adults + one teen + two children: €893

EARLY SEASON (8 and 15 December)

We hope that the STVI will continue to offer a 6-day ski pass at a special early season price for all YSE guests, whether adults, children or seniors, as they have done in the past. We await news on this and will update this page as soon as wek know.

THESE SKI PASSES MUST BE PRE-PAID TO YSE IN THE UK.

CHRISTMAS WEEK (22-29 December 2013)

We hope that the STVI will continue their Christmas offer whereby one child (aged 5-13) skis free for every adult pass bought. We will update this page as soon as we have confirmation of this.

THESE SKI PASSES MUST BE PRE-PAID TO YSE IN THE UK.

PRE-PAID PASSES for specified dates ONLY:

We hope that the STVI will continue the following offer on three specified weeks (to be announced):

For each pass a second pass can be purchased half price. Please note that the discount is always given on the cheaper pass and, for example, if you have two adults and two children (or two adults and two seniors) in your party, the discounts will be given on the two children/senior passes.

THESE SKI PASSES MUST BE PRE-PAID TO YSE IN THE UK.

Ski passes will be delivered to your chalet on the first morning of your holiday before you go skiing. Please note that only these discounted ski passes can be paid for in advance. All other ski passes are paid for on the YSE transfer coaches - go to the top of the page for details.

Please note that any special offers mentioned above are only available to those who have purchased YSE holidays!

By logging on to www.valdiserepass.com and paying a fee of €10 you can get about €11 off (5%). You’d then get a further €45 off next year if you spent more than €800 this year. It seems to be aimed at big families who visit Val d’Isère twice per season or more.

CARRÉ NEIGE

Nowadays we thoroughly recommend that you take out the Carré Neige insurance (2012-13 prices: €2.80 per day from your fourteenth birthday to your sixty-fifth, €2.40 for juniors and seniors) even though you already have travel insurance.

The reason for this is that the Val d'Isère mountain rescue service has had numerous problems extracting payment from British insurance companies, and now treats all British people as uninsured if they cannot show the approved French Carte Neige or Carré Neige cover. However well insured you may be, you will be brought down in a sledge if you are injured, while those with French insurance will get a free helicopter ride! This does not apply to life-threatening injuries, where everyone is treated the same, nor to short journeys with minor injuries, when a helicopter is unlikely to be called. But it did apply to our guest last year who managed to break both legs. She was being loaded into a sledge without analgesia (which the pisteurs cannot administer) when she happened to mention that she had taken Carré Neige. Immediately, a helicopter, a doctor and a shot of morphine were called! Less than 1% of skiers get injured nowadays, but those who do are very glad if they have taken Carré Neige.

The cost of this (2012-13 prices: €16.80 adults and €14.40 children/seniors per week - but the maximum price is €22.40/€19.20 so if on a two week holiday, that is what you will pay) can be added to any of the above passes - both pre-paid and those purchased on the transfer coach. Obviously, for family passes, the Carré Neige has to be bought for each individual person.

Please let us know whether you wish to purchase Carré Neige when pre-paying for your ski pass.
